Amateur Radio Breakfast Meeting - Monday, July 9

The Amateur Radio Breakfast Meeting is open to all conference participants who hold an amateur radio call sign, but pre-registration is required, and your call sign is requested. The intent of the gathering is to gather support for AP-S student, outreach, SIGHT and educational activities involving amateur radio.

Welcome Reception at the Boston Museum of Science - Monday, July 9

The Steering Committee has chosen a spectacular venue for the AP-S 2018 Welcome Reception…the Boston Museum of Science, one of Boston’s leading cultural institutions. The Museum’s story began in 1830, opened as the Boston Society of Natural History by six men interested in natural history. From humble beginnings, this institution is one of the world’s largest science centers, attracting approximately 1.5 million visitors per year for its vibrant programs and 700 interactive exhibits.

Please note that the reception begins at 19:30 and is a Dessert Reception. This timing allows you the flexibility of enjoying one of Boston’s many (and varied) local restaurants. Please note that there will be shuttle bus transportation running from the Westin Boston Waterfront beginning at 19:00. Technical Tour to MIT Haystack Observatory - Monday, July 9

A technical tour has been added to the symposium schedule. MIT Haystack Observatory, located in Westford, Massachusetts, is an interdisciplinary research center of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which engages in radio science research across multiple fields, including astronomy, geodesy, and geospace science. Haystack’s mission is to develop technology for radio science applications, and thereby study the structure of the galaxy and larger universe, to advance scientific knowledge of our planet and its space environment, and to contribute to the education of future scientists and engineers.

Meet with Dr. Philip Erickson, Assistant Director at Haystack, Head of the Atmospheric and Geospace Research Group, and amateur radio expert, who will speak on Haystack's current research and significant contributions to radio science. A tour of the 37-meter antenna and radome will follow.

Women in Engineering - Lunch and Speaker - Tuesday, July 10

Join the AP-S WIE for a special luncheon and speaker, Dr. Melissa G. Choi. This event is open to all conference participants, but pre-registration is required. The scopes of interest of the WIE include increasing the participation of women within IEEE, gathering and disseminating information regarding the status of women, and initiatives for, by and on behalf of women in engineering and science.

Young Professionals Afloat – A Sail Through Boston Harbor Aboard the Spirit of Boston - Tuesday, July 10

A short stroll from the Westin Boston Waterfront brings you to the Seaport Piers, where you’ll board the Spirit of Boston, for an evening of incredible harbor views, live and DJ entertainment, and a full buffet dinner. A cash bar will be available.

Please join the Antennas and Propagation Society’s Awards Committee, as they honor the distinguished accomplishments of the society’s professional community, including recognition of the 2018 IEEE AP-S Fellows. NOTE the format, introduced during the 2016 event, as the awards will be presented during a special evening session at the Westin Boston Waterfront, to be followed by the Celebratory Banquet, which is a ticketed event. The Awards Presentation is open to all conference registrants and their guests, but advance registration is required.

Celebratory Banquet - Wednesday, July 11

This evening’s Celebratory Banquet will take place in Grand Ballroom A/B at the Westin Boston Waterfront, and it is open to all conference registrants and their guests, which requires a separate ticket purchase. A three-course plated dinner and wine will be served.

Please remember to add a Banquet Ticket, when you register for the conference. If you need to add one at a later date, please add one to your registration. Note, too, that you will be asked to select from one of three entrees - seafood, vegetarian or chicken.
